Air Activities (again) and Awards

A laminated card on a blue table. The card lists the modified UK phonetic alphabet. A-M are listed on the left of the card in red bold capitals with their phonetic word in smaller black text next to it. On the right side is the same layout but with N-Z and blue bold instead of red

Look at that, two updates in one week! Ok, ok, I know the first one should have been at the weekend, but hey, we've been a busy Group!

So this week we did some more work towards our Air Activities Stage 1 badge, but before we get into that, we should discuss the game we played. Annalise chose crab football and led the group through the rules and played referee. Everyone enjoyed it and it was great to play such a well known game in a most unusual way.

Ok, back to the badge work. This week it was all about the phonetic alphabet. We looked at the standard, more well known alphabet, and also the modified UK version, as it appears in the above photo. We all had a sheet of paper so we could write down our name in phonetics. So, for anyone who doesn't know, here's an example. I'll write my name: Bagheera.

That's from the standard version, but take a look at the photo, maybe you could have a go. Makes spelling out your name in those annoying phone calls easier than trying to think of something.

After we did that, we played a game which involved running when Hedgehog said a phonetic letter that appears in our names.

To end the evening, we did something very special: Awards!

Brian was awarded his first annual participation award and Evelyn and Sam were both awarded their Chief Scout Awards: Acorn for Squirrel Evelyn and Bronze for Beaver Sam!

This week is half term so we don't have a meeting on Wednesday, but you know what? That's ok, because next weekend, first weekend of November, we're having a sleepover!! So keep your eyes peeled for news on that.

For now, don't forget to take a look at our public Facebook page for the rest of the photos taken this week.
