Bring A Friend Night

A very successful Bring a Friend night for our Squirrels and Beavers

Brace yourselves, this week's meetings were jam-packed! Now remember, Squirrels and Beavers have an hour long meeting, Cubs have an hour and a half. Keep that in mind.

So, our younger sections.

Their Bring a Friend night started with parachute games, followed by a welcome, then they split. While the Squirrels were playing What's in the Box? the Beavers were having a bit of target practice with Nerf guns. Then they swapped.

Two tables on the left of the image have orange plastic targets on them. Some Beaver Scouts wear eye protection and aim at the targets with Nerf guns. At the back of the room there are boxes on a table that Squirrel Scouts are putting their hands inside to guess what they can feel

With the swapping over, everyone came back together again and ran off some energy by playing North, South, East, West. After that was a game of Scout Bingo where each of them had a card with different images relating to Scouting such as different badges from different sections, activities, uniform... all sorts of things. It was a great activity as our visiting friends got to see examples of things they could look forward to if they chose to return next week. It's sounding hopeful!

We're still not finished yet. The evening was finished by making edible campfires by spreading chocolate frosting onto a biscuit to create the base with dirt. We don't build campfires on grass due to the risk of the ground around it catching fire too. A red sweet was added to represent the flames at the centre of our fire. Chocolate covered finger biscuits were then used as sticks to build the campfire itself. Then the fun part: eat it while being read a story.

And all that was in an hour! Now for the Cubs, whose plans changed a little from some sit down craft, to having a go at the activities the Squirrels and Beavers had tried.

Originally the plan had been to do some activities towards their Artist Badge, chat about challenge badges and do a few running around games. The Cubs were told this and also what the Squirrels and Beavers had been up to. They were given the option to continue with the original plan or switch ideas. The Cubs liked the idea of target practice, bingo and biscuits far more. Youth led programmes at its finest!

So, again, the Cubs' evening was a Bring a Friend night, taking our total of 2 Cubs up to 5! What a leap! We should have had 6 but one of our Beavers who's ready to swim up has been poorly. Wishing Sam get well soon!

The evening started for the Cubs with the Scout Bingo and each aspect was explained to our visiting friends to give them an idea of what they could expect if they wished to stay, and as with the younger sections, it sounds like we may have new members.

Following the game, were the campfire biscuits and Otter described two different methods to build one: the log cabin method (left) and the tepee method (right).

Of course, both methods, log cabin or tepee, were both delicious!

The Cub meeting ended with the Pack's first investitures! Both Millie and Robin made their promises in front of their visiting friends, as well as parents.

So all of that managed to squeeze into two short meetings. What a night! As ever, please don't forget to check out of socials, links to which you can find on the homepage.
