The Squirrels and Beavers have been working on their Air Activities under Poppy's direction. By successfully guiding the other Squirrels and Beavers through their badge, not only did they achieve stage 1, but Poppy also earned her YouShape Award. An amazing achievement for the whole group! More photos can be found on our public Facebook page.
With the Beavers and Squirrels finishing their work and their meeting, it was time for the Cubs to start theirs.
While it was Air Activities for the younger sections, our Cubs were doing experiments to go towards their Scientist badge. Last week it was started with the cocktail stick towers as a physics aspect. This week it started with reactions, more specifically vinegar, coins and eggs.
Not all together, that would be very strange. We used the vinegar on dirty old coins and left them for a little while. While they were stewing away in the liquid, we put some in a jar with some eggs, again to see what the vinegar would do to the shell.
The coins were checked during the meeting and they seemed to be a bit cleaner than they started. The eggs were bubbling away all evening and were taken home to check on next week.
The next part of the evening was to look at living things, in this case cress.
We each planted a control sample (this is science after all!) which will receive water, light and warmth to help it grow. Then Millie, Robin and Kaa were assigned a variable to deny their second sample. The light-less sample will be kept in a dark space but will still get warmth and water. The water-less one received just enough water to start it off but then won't receive anymore but will get light and warmth. Finally, the last will get water and light but will be kept somewhere cold. We'll take a look at our cress again next week.
Tune in next week to find out the results of our tests! And for more photos of the Cub meeting, take a little look here.
