Creative Global Pioneers... Sort Of

Updated: Apr 6

Three different badges were worked on this week. As ever, let's start with the youngest, and work upwards.

The badges the Squirrels worked on was Get Creative. There were natural resources to create images and pretending to be animals. We were also really pleased to welcome back Oliver, it was great to see him!

Finally, we invested Zach into the 4th Gosport family!

The Beavers were looking a little more farther afield by working towards their Global Issues badge, specifically the aspect about endangered animals.

There was a puzzle to complete and masks to wear while pretending to be animals. We also learned the meaning of words like extinct and endangered, as well as talking about the sorts of things we can do to help prevent habitat loss, like ensuring we dispose of our litter so it doesn't end up in our oceans, for example.

Moving onto the Cubs, we went back to our roots by looking at the Pioneer Badge which meant learning some old school traditional Scouting skills: knots and lashings!

There were larks heads, reef knots, stopper knots, figure of eight knots and clove hitches to start square lashing. We also played a game involving untying a human knot as well as cross a 'river' by traversing it using only three sheets of paper.

But before all that, we invested Kaa as an adult volunteer so her Squirrel sister and Mongoose, her mum, could see the ceremony after their meeting and before the Cubs' meeting with her Beaver-almost-Cub brother as well.

So much achieved in our short meetings but a great way to wind up this half term. There's no meeting for us next week, but there is a sleepover coming up, so stay tuned for updates on how that goes!
